The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against four Iranian citizens and two companies for participating in cyber attacks against US government agencies, defense contractors and private companies.

The sanctions affected two defense companies-Mehrsam Andisheh Saz Nik (MASN) and Dadeh Afzar Arman (DAA), which acted in the interests of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Cyber Command (IRGC-CEC).

Alireza Shafi Nasab and Reza Kazemifar Rahman, working for MASN, carried out attacks on American organizations. Kazemifar also participated in phishing attacks on the US Treasury Department. Hossein Mohammad Haruni, another sanctioned Iranian, attacked the Treasury Department and other U.S. institutions using social engineering techniques.

Komeel Baradaran Salmani has been linked to attacks coordinated through MASN, DAA and other IRGC-CEC defense companies. All assets and interests of these individuals and entities in the United States are frozen, and any transactions with their assets require approval from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

The US State Department also announced a reward of up to $10 million for information on Kazemifar, Salmani, Haruni, as well as MASN and DAA.
